Ullman Sails Making Waves

While the brand has been around for over 50 years, Ullman Sails continues to make waves in the world of yachting. They have recently relocated their head office to the oh, so beautiful city of Cape Town and with a new marketing team and CEO at the helm, the company looks better than ever.

However at their core, it’s a calm and simple approach to sailmaking that keeps Ullman Sails strong. They have independently owned lofts in more than 75 locations in 25 countries throughout the world and they work on a collaborative approach that harnesses the best skills from their wide network of skilled designers, experienced sail makers and decorated sailors. The group is founded on a rich and diverse heritage of sail making and it’s their unique approach to business that allows them to deliver quality sails that are personalised to their customers.

Every Ullman sail is developed by their teams whose passion for sailing is unrivalled. Using an organic and responsive approach, which is a breath of fresh air in today’s hectic world, Ullman is able to respond quickly to questions and queries with local knowledge, no matter what you sail and where on Earth you do so. It is this pride in the successes of their individuals, who are given the freedom to thrive and inspire, that is at the heart of their business.

Ullman Sails has the flexibility to use each individual loft for manufacturing and also that of the international group. The Ullman Sails group is home to one of the largest sail manufacturing factories in the world with its own state of the art facilities. This global loft network means that Ullman Sails can ensure high-quality manufacturing and supply market-leading technology.

When it comes to sails, Ullman understands that one size doesn’t always fit all. Their experienced sail makers make sure they identify exactly what the customer wants so that every sail is a perfect fit. Plus, their team is always available to answer questions about cloth selection, UV protection, sail systems and inventory options. They know that sailing is all about enjoying your time on the water. You want to be confident that you have invested in sails that are built for durability and performance.

Brad Stephens, head of technical development, and an Australian native is particularly proud about their recent success with multihulls. Paul Mitchell and Dale Mitchell, both members of the Ullman team down under, have taken a number of titles on their catamarans. While on the cruising side Ullman has worked on some of the South African cats, like the Open Ocean 740 and Balance 526. Ullman is also responsible for building all the sails for Leopard Catamarans that are built in Cape Town by Robertson and Caine. These cruising catamarans require reliable, robust sails that set great, look good and go the distance. And boy, has Ullman delivered!
