Personally, I really enjoy a good meatball and think they are extremely versatile. They can be a comfort food, great for kids plain or elegant as a cocktail party appetizer with a fancy little toothpick.

Meatballs were created as most great rustic Italian dishes. Eggs and breadcrumbs were added to meat to stretch it. There are some debates between cooks about weather or not your supposed to fry or bake your meatballs. In my family meatballs were fried in a pan and then cooked into the sauce till the center was cooked all the way through and they absorbed the flavors of the sauce.
